Exciting new DPR publication from Trussell Tech

Trussell Tech is excited to announce the publication of "Reliability of pathogen control in direct potable reuse: Performance evaluation and QMRA of a full-scale 1 MGD advanced treatment train.” This is the first study of its kind to assess the pathogen risk of a direct potable reuse treatment train using data from a full-scale facility.  The innovative treatment train used ozone and BAC as pretreatment for full-advanced treatment with MF, RO, and UV/AOP, incorporating enhanced online monitoring to demonstrate the reliability of pathogen control.  The high degree of redundancy provided by this train resulted in pathogen risks that were consistently lower than the U.S. and WHO risk goals, even in the event of failures.  The results demonstrate the benefit of an operational strategy based on failure prevention through redundancy in treatment.

Rhodes Trussell chosen for NAS Committee

Rhodes Trussell is honored to be selected as a member of the National Academy of Sciences committee on "Grand Challenges and Opportunities in Environmental Engineering and Science for the 21st Century." The committee will be conducting a study to identify high priority challenges for the broad field of environmental engineering and science.  Given the current and emerging environmental challenges of the twenty-first century, a study that describes how the field of environmental engineering and science might evolve to better address these needs could serve as a guide to the community and help frame research priorities. TT earns Engineering Excellence Award

Trussell Tech and Kennedy Jenks were honored by The American Council of Engineering Companies, California (ACEC California) as a 2017 recipient of its prestigious Engineering Excellence Award. TT and KJ were honored for Padre Dam Municipal Water District's Advanced Water Purification Demonstration Project in Santee, CA, which was developed to create a new, local, sustainable, drought-proof drinking water supply using state-of-the-art technology to purify East San Diego County’s recycled water. Padre Dam MWD retained Trussell Tech and Kennedy/Jenks Consultants to design, construct, and complete yearlong testing of an advanced water purification (AWP) demonstration facility. The demonstration facility was used to validate that the proposed treatment system provides a reliable path forward for both surface water augmentation and groundwater recharge, offering a new drinking water supply for East County.

Trussell Tech Participating in new WRF Project

Trussell Tech is proud to be participating in the Water Research Foundation's new project on conventional drinking water treatment of stormwater, graywater and treated wastewater. Shane Trussell will be serving as Co-Principal Investigator on the project, titled “Conventional Drinking Water Treatment of Alternative Water Sources: Source Water Requirements” (project #4665). The project will study the viability of these less-researched water sources possible potable supplies. For more information, click here.

California Conference of Local Health Officers

Dr. Brian Pecson is invited to speak to the California Conference of Local Heath Officers on the risks and impacts of pathogenic microorganisms on potable water reuse. The presentation will discuss public health risks and regulatory requirements, and demonstrate how potable reuse systems can be designed and operated to effectively control these risks and protect public health. The meeting will be held in Oakland on June 16, 2016, with representatives from state and local agencies, including EPA, CDPH, CDFA, CDPR and others.

White House Water Summit

Shane Trussell recently accompanied Cari Dale, the Water Utilities Director at the City of Oceanside, to co-present their IPR and Pathogen Removal Study at the White House Water Summit on March 22. This award is a great honor for Oceanside and Trussell Tech, reflecting our commitment to promoting sustainable water practices. The Water Summit coincided with World Water Day and featured panel discussions and invited speakers from the public and private sectors to raise awareness of priority water issues in the United States, and to catalyze ideas and actions to help build a sustainable and secure water future.

Water Reuse 101

Trussell Tech is proud to be a part of an NWRI Independent advisory panel that worked with WateReuse Foundation, the American Water Works Association, and the Water Environment Federation to develop the recently-released Framework for Direct Potable Reuse. The guidance document is the first of its kind with the purpose of helping utilities develop guidelines for safely converting wastewater into municipal drinking water through the emerging practice of direct potable reuse (DPR).

Members of the panel included panel chair Dr. George Tchobanoglous of the University of California, Davis; Dr. Joseph Cotruvo of Joseph Cotruvo & Associates; environmental engineering consultant Dr. James Crook; Dr. Ellen McDonald of Alan Plummer Associates; Dr. Adam Olivieri of EOA, Inc.; Andrew Salveson of Carollo Engineers; and Dr. R. Shane Trussell.
