Zakiyyah Brown has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and a M.S. in Environmental Engineering from University of Southern California. Their research background includes investigation of disinfection byproducts formation during advanced wastewater treatment for potable reuse. Using an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer, Zakiyyah conducted quality control and assurance of total organic halogen quantification using a new, non-adsorptive method. In her undergraduate research studies, she conducted kinetic release studies of organic dissolvable pellets for groundwater remediation. Prior to working at Trussell, Zakiyyah spent a year teaching science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics concepts to children of ages five years old and older at a process art design studio using her research background in environmental engineering.
