Omar Hassan has a B.S in Civil and Environmental Engineering and an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. During his undergraduate degree, he was a member of the Berkeley Water Center where he assisted with research on decentralized stormwater treatment. There, he tested the performance of different sorption and oxidation materials on the removal/degradation of trace organics. In between his degrees, Omar worked in several organizations where he gained program management and design experience working on conventional Wastewater Treatment Plants and Advanced Water Purification Facility projects. In his master’s degree, he wrote a report on PFAS in the San Francisco Bay Area and the status of treatment technologies at the time. He also learned remote sensing techniques and used them to study different topics from the link between wildfires and Cyanobacteria concentrations as well as the effects of a dam’s construction on downstream Egyptian agriculture. At Trussell, Omar hopes to utilize and hone his skills so he can be a better steward for our natural resources and better protect public health.
