      The West Basin Municipal Water District owns the Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility that provides full advanced treatment for 30 mgd of secondary effluent from the Hyperion Treatment Plant. Organic fouling has increased flux loss and chemical cleaning frequencies for that facility’s microfiltration (MF) membranes. Trussell Technologies, Inc. pilot tested ozone pretreatment to address the MF fouling and restore production to the facility through a tailored collaboration with the WateReuse Foundation (WRF10-11). Water quality and operational results prompted the District to pursue full-scale implementation with 30 mgd of MF pretreatment with ozone using design criteria developed from the pilot testing. More

    • Lead and Copper Rule Compliance for San Francisco

      Trussell Technologies was retained to address appropriate Lead and Copper Rule corrosion control treatment and water quality parameters (WQPs) after SFPUC implemented system-wide chloramination and system-wide fluoridation in 2004-05. The existing corrosion control treatment (CCT), pH adjustment, was compared to practices (e.g., pH/alkalinity adjustment, phosphate inhibitor) at U.S. cities treating similar soft, low alkalinity water supplies. The project also looked at impacts on aging, concrete-lined piping in the Hetch Hetchy aqueduct. As a result, CDPH approved pH adjustment as CCT, reduced the pH WQP from 8.5 to 8.2, and eliminated Langelier Index as a WQP, saving SFPUC millions. More

      The San Elijo Joint Powers Authority (SEJPA) owns and operates a 5.25 mgd water recycling facility in San Diego that is achieving extremely efficient and reliable treatment through an optimized high rate conventional carbon oxidation (i.e., non-nitrifying) process. Trussell Technologies has worked closely with SEJPA staff to implement innovative and cost effective techniques to address treatment issues, improve treatment, and minimize operational cost. These innovative practices have virtually eliminated all treatment issues and concerns, and now SEJPA is setting the precedent for efficient and effective recycled water production. More

      The District is pursuing full-scale ocean water desalination. Trussell Tech supported the District in water assessment, planning, permitting, and design of their demonstration facility. The firm assessed all water quality issues and data including feed, treated water at all stages, and concentrate discharge with respect to CDPH and RWQCB regulatory limits. Trussell Tech established water quality goals to ensure compliance and to address emerging concerns like CECs and algal species. More

    • Woodland-Davis Clean Water Agency’s Sacramento River Surface Water Treatment Plant

      The Cities of Davis and Woodland, CA, have formed a joint partnership to select a Design-Build-Operate (DBO) team to construct and operate a 40-mgd surface water treatment facility for potable water production to largely replace their current groundwater supply. Trussell Tech was hired to develop process train alternatives, prepare the RFP, and coordinate with CDPH to facilitate permitting. Included in this effort have been a source water quality assessment, conceptual design of the Benchmark treatment train, and bench-scale studies to obtain necessary design criteria for cost estimations.  Trussell Tech also has assisted with treatment performance specification and development of the DBO Service Contract.
